Civilian killed in Kashmir firing

Civilian killedSrinagar: 24th A civilian was killed and five people were wounded in a village in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district where the army fired on suspected militants Saturday, police said.

Troops from the 53 National People's Rifles by an ambush near the village Chewan Keller. "On notice some group, they opened fire and killed one civilian and wounded another," said a senior police officer told IANS.

When news of the killing spread, mobs took to the streets shouting anti-India slogans. Demonstrators stoned transitory army vehicles and burnt two of them.

The soldiers escorting a convoy opened fire injured four other villagers, one of them critically. The wounded were taken to Srinagar for particular treatment.
