Will respect everyone's sentiments, Amitabh assures Tamil protesters

Toronto / Mumbai, 26 April (IANS) With the Tamils in India and Canada said they are "deeply saddened" by Amitabh Bachchan proposed visit to Sri Lanka to host the India International Film Awards (iIFA) meaning, black mega star Monday said he would respect everyone's feelings .

The Canadian Tamil assembly said Sunday: "Amitabh is a great hero to us in the Tamil diaspora, but we are very troubled and deeply sorry for our hero future visit to an organization that has committed crimes against Tamils. By visiting Sri Lanka Amitabh will be lending credibility to a regime that has shattered the Tamils recklessly and committed horrific human rights violations. “

"If Tamils carry on to suffer in Sri Lanka and many human rights bodies have concerned the regime in crimes against humankind, we are talking with a person of Bachchan's caliber not to go there to help a government that is desperately seeking recognition from the international community, despite for his crimes.”

Canada is home to 300,000 Tamils from Sri Lanka, making them the biggest group outside the island nation.

Tamil protesters in Mumbai said they predictable Amitabh to show solidarity.

"We urge him not to attend the function in Colombo as a symbol of solidarity with the Tamilian cause in Sri Lanka. Tamils have been victims of violence and war crimes dedicated by the Mahinda Rajapaksa government in the country," C. Rajendran, a spokesman for the protesters in Mumbai, told IANS.
