Cabinet approves Indian National Defence University
The breakfront Thursday decided to Rs 295 crore to set up an Indian National Defence University (indu) to create synergies between obtainable institutions of knowledge in the sector and manage the planned security challenge.
"The Union Chas given in-principle endorsement for setting up indu as a fully independent organization, must be included under an Act of Parliament to an estimated cost of Rs 295 crore," Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni told reporters after a cabinet conference chaired over by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
The storeroom has also given approval to acquire 200 hectares of land in Binola in Haryana in Gurgaon of the site for indu at an predictable cost of RS 100 crore, added Soni.
"Indu will make long-term defense and strategic studies and to create synergy between academia and government officials, the priest said.
"It will endorse policy research on all aspects of nationwide security as an input to the planned national policies.
"It will promote awareness of national security by reaching out to researchers and an audience outside of the official machinery.
"Indu will also train national security leaders in various aspect of national security approach, national military strategy, national strategy and national in sequence knowledge strategy through teaching and research," Soni added.
The creation of indu was one of the recommendation made by a commission led by well-known security analyst K Subrahmaniam after 1999 Kargil conflict with Pakistan.
