Hamas renews offer to end fight if Israel withdraws
Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal has openly that the Palestinian Islamic group to end its armed struggle against Israel if Israel withdraws from Palestinian land occupied in 1967 Middle East war.
Hamas, which refuses to distinguish Israel, has long claimed that it will enter into a long-term truce if Israel withdraws from West Bank and East Jerusalem, and accept a right of return millions of Palestinian refugees.
Speaking on the Charlie Rose program on American PBS TV, Meshaal directly speak to the issue of armed confrontation, which is the basis for his ideology as a national liberation pressure group.
"Israel started (the conflict) by occupation, so resistance is a reaction. The case is the profession and the reaction from the Palestinians is that it will end," Meshaal said in an interview recorded on Thursday, according to a print released by PBS.
"So when the occupation is over, the confrontation will end, as simple as that. If Israel were to go to the 1967 borders ... this will be the end of the Palestinian resistance."
Meshaal said that if a "Palestinian state with real sovereignty" was recognized under the conditions he laid down, so that the contents of any following ties with Israel will be decided democratically by the Palestinians.
Hamas has controlled Gaza since it won a brief civil war in 2007 against supporters of Western-backed Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas's more secular Fatah faction, creating a rift that has undermined the Palestinian cause.
Hamas is opposed to indirect peace talks began last month sandwiched between the Palestinian Authority led by Abbas and Israel, says Abbas will compromise on national rights.
The pressure group had said it could live in peace with Israel about a two-state solution was reached where all the occupied Palestinian land was returned, but in 1988 the Charter calls for the devastation of Israel and the establishment of a Palestinian state in all the pre -1948 British-mandate Palestine.
