Karunanidhi meets Sonia, demands early passage of Women’s Bill

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Monday met UPA President Sonia Gandhi and demanded early passage of Women's condition Bill in Lok Sabha.

Mr. Karunanidhi, who is here on a three-visit met the Congress president at her 10 Janpath residence here.

The DMK principal will meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh later this twilight.

Issues such as early passage of Women's condition Bill in Lok Sabha came up for conversation during the meeting, which lasted about 30 minutes.

The bill was approved by Rajya Sabha with a two-thirds majority in the March 9, 2010 with support from the BJP and Left parties.

The DMK chief said, "I told Sonia Gandhi, the need to take steps to pass Women's Reservation Bill in Lok Sabha as soon as possible."

He is also unspoken to have brought to Gandhi's notice the need for assembly to pass a two thirds majority of the Tamil Nadu's decision to revive the legislative assembly, which was abolished in 1984.

The DMK chief was accompany by his daughter-MP Kanimozhi and Grand nephew and Union Textiles Minister Dayanidhi Maran.

Mr. Karunanidhi had Sunday supported the Telecom Minister A. Raja, and almost not possible to resign as demanded by opposition parties over 2G spectrum argument.

Asked whether he discussed the potential political problems with Ms. Gandhi, the DMK chief said: "There is more time for election in Tamil Nadu to come ...."

Asked about the inter-state water disputes, came up for conversation, "he replied in the unenthusiastic.
