Memorial Day is a U.S. federal holiday observed on the last Monday in May (05/31/2010). Formerly known as Decoration Day, celebrating the American men and women who died while in military service.First enacted to honor Union soldiers in the Civil War (it is celebrated around the day of reunification after the Civil War), it was expanded after World War I.
