My father clean, didn’t bid in IPL: Supriya

Sharad Pawar

Farming Minister Sharad Pawar's daughter Supriya Sule Friday rushed to the protection of his family, saying they had nothing to do with the City conglomerate MD Aniruddha Deshpande Pune unsuccessful bid for IPL teams.

In reply to reports about the offer from the Pune-based City Corporation, where Pawar family has 16 percent equity, "said Sule Deshpande made the offer in his person capacity.

"I am a minority investor with 16 percent. My family has had anything to do with Mr. Deshpande. My husband is not near Deshpande," Sule told CNN-IBN.

"I know I'm honest. Am I living with conviction and will live like this for the rest of my life. You'll never spot me with BCCI officials," said Sule.

Points out that the offer of Pune franchisee was won by the Sahara Group, Sule blame the media for "making a stack of an elephant."

"It was an open tender. There is nothing illegal in this bid. The companionship has no interest in this process. Mr. Deshpande lost it anyway. Arunbhai Mehta, chairman of the company, Mr. Deshpande said not to do it (the bite). The Board of Directors had adopted a resolution not to bid, and if Mr Deshpande ever started, he did in his individual capacity. We have nothing to do with it, "she claimed.

She added that her father was chairman of the Board of Control for Cricket in India since IPL started in 2008 and could with no trouble have been an IPL team.

"Sharad Pawar was the chairman of the BCCI when the IPL began. It was not easier said than done for him to have a team," she said

Echoes of her father's view; she said that Deshpande had bid for IPL team in his individual capacity.

"Mr. Deshpande has made very clear position. In its board meeting with me, took the board's unanimous position that the City Corporation will not contribute in the tendering process. He was allowed in an individual capacity in the tendering process," Pawar said.

Deshpande also claimed that none of the Pawar family was involved in the tendering process.

"There is no money concerned in IPL bid. We have not bid. Just to clarify some of the Pawar family was involved in the bid," he said.

Agriculture Minister received support from an unlikely quarter. Suspended IPL official Lalit Modi tweeted that "Mr Anirudh Deshpande and his consortium clearly there (sic) tender documents that they will make a Newco, if the bidder in the auction IPL and he used the company as he is a shareholder of - City Corp. in establish their personal financial criteria.
