Petroleum Products Price Hike Lesser Than Proposed: Karunanidhi

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Monday said the hike in the prices of petroleum products was lesser than what was originally proposed.

The Centre had originally proposed a large increase.

However it was lessened due to suggestions from various allies, he told reporters here.

He was reacting AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa’s reported allegation that the ruling DMK, being a UPA ally, was as much to be blamed for the price hike.

Though the increase would impose an additional burden of Rs. 150 crore on the State transport department, the government would not increase bus fares.
