Report by Suchismita Sahoo; Bhubaneswar: The Bharatiya Janata Party had called for a National wide protest against the acute price rise of essential goods and has held meeting in 25 major cities of the country today. These meeting were addressed by Senior Party Leaders in different State Headquarters.

BJP former National President Shri Rajnath Singh, during his visit to Orissa today addressed a gathering of senior party workers from all over the state at the State Party Office in Bhubaneswar and outlined the mass agitation that the BJP is taking on at the national level against spiraling inflation and price rise. Shri Rajnath Singh announced that the BJP has called for a nationwide bandh against the faulty and anti poor polices of the UPA headed by the Congress on the 5th of July 2010. He highlighted the plight of the poor and marginal farmers and castigated the Congress Party of its unfulfilled electoral promises. The rising unemployment, internal strife, inflation have all given a big sense of insecurity to the common citizen of the country.

Shri Singh stated that the BJP was the only nationalist party which has worked sincerely for the poor and gave the example of the BJP ruled states where in spite of poverty there were no farmers suicides. He recalled the achievement of the NDA Government especially in the economics and foreign policy front. Shri Rajnath Singh said that in spite of crude prices hovering around the $40 to $80 mark in the last two years, the UPA Government has repeatedly hiked the prices of petroleum products many times. The pro-rich and anti poor polices have resulted in social upheaval. The BJP would ensure that there is a roll back on the petroleum price hike and would take up the matter in parliament.

Shri Rajnath Singh also spoke on the Maoist menace and called it a national problem. He said that Naxalism has always been on the rise whenever there is a Congress led Government at the helm. The threat from across the borders, both from China and Pakistan have intensified due to the bad foreign policies of the Congress.

Shri Rajanth Singh lauded the leadership of State President Jual Oram and said that the Party would touch new heights in the State.

Shri Singh was accompanied by Shri Bhupinder Singh Yadav, National Secretary. The meeting was address by State President Jual Oram, Shri Biswa Bhusan Harichandan, Shri Suresh Pujari and Shri Nayan Mohanty.
