HIGH - 5: WORLD CUP DAY 21

WORLD CUP

Play of the day: In the 81st minute of the game, a dangerous triangle of Fabregas, Xavi and Iniesta started a move where Fabregas played a short pass to Xavi who back-heeled for the waiting Iniesta behind him. For one of the few times in the match Spain had managed to get between the midfield and the defence line of Paraguay. Iniesta ran at the Paraguayan defence sucking in one central defender which created space for the incoming Pedro. He laid-off a pass to his Barça teammate Pedro whose neat shot hit the post and fell kindly for the waiting David Villa. Villa scored but not after the ball had hit both the posts before crossing the line. His goal proved to be the winner for Spain.

Player of the day: What’s common between Germany’s victory against England and Argentina? In both matches they put four goals in their opponent’s net and in both the matches Bastian Shweinsteiger ran the show. He along with Khedira out ran the Argentine midfield of Mascherano, Rodriguez and Di Maria. The Bayern Munich midfielder created the first and the third goal for Germany.
