Iranian Woman convicted of adultery will not be stoned

The government of Iran has announced that a woman convicted of adultery, will not be stoned to death.

The Iranian embassy in London said that Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani, 42, would no longer face death by stoning punishment.A message seeking comment from the embassy was to refuse, and it was not immediately clear whether Ashtiani still faced death by other means.

As per statement of William Hague, UK Foreign Secretary, stoning was a "medieval punishment" and that continued use showed Iran's disregard for human rights. For more information click here
