Mangalore, Jun 30: The clearing of the debris left after the crash of the Air India Express flight last month, began on Tuesday June 29. The cleaning operation being conducted by Fiza Group, Kuloor, used the help of cranes on Wednesday June 30.
A S Balakrishna Naidu, chief engineer, Fiza Group, said that the process may take about 12 days and they may need an extra crane for the clearing process as large parts like the wings and tail pieces of the body need to be carried away.
The district administration had written to the directorate general of civil aviation (DGCA) to clear the debris immediately after the crash. They waited for the enquiry team to arrive before the clearing was done.
N J Rao, senior official, safety department, Air India, along with other engineers are supervising the job. Workers are provided with gloves, shoes, masks and helmets as a precautionary measure for clearing the debris.
Many valuable things including some documents of the victims are in the process of being cleared which will be helpful in further investigation, which is still on.
