Fresh autopsy of UP girl rules out rape, points at murder: Cops

UP Girls
After the first postmortem suggested 'suicide', a fresh autopsy of the 14-year-old girl found dead inside a Uttar Pradesh police station has ruled out rape but indicates the girl could have been murdered.

Under fire from Opposition parties, the Uttar Pradesh government has ordered a CB-CID probe into the alleged rape and murder of the teenager whose body was found in a police station in Lakhimpur district.

The government also ordered a fresh postmortem.

After the case sparked outrage, the government dismissed the earlier postmortem report which said death was caused due to asphyxia. The fresh inquiry into the cause of death was done by a panel of doctors from other districts.

An FIR has been lodged against a sub-inspector and two policemen for allegedly tampering with evidence.
Missing since Friday evening, the girl was found hanging from a tree inside the premises of the Nighasan police station. The victim's mother in her complaint had alleged the girl was raped and murdered.

Police Commissioner, Lucknow, Prashant Trivedi told reporters: “A scene of crime should be left undisturbed. That is standard operating procedure. In this case, that was not done. We have held that as tampering and we have taken a strong view on it. We have lodged an FIR against a sub inspector and two constables.”

“A death in a police station is serious. So more than normal precautions should be taken in handling the case. We are very serious about getting to the truth. We have visited the scene of crime along with the mother of the victim,” he said.
