Audi’s R8 Coupe has always been an exceptionally fast sports coupe thanks to its cutting edge design and outstanding performance figures. And though the R8 model is currently available in an even more powerful 5.2 liter V10 version and a topless Spyder model, there is now something far more exclusive that the german car maker has brought forth to celebrate Audi’s historic victory at the 2011 Le Mans race (Read : 2011 Le Mans Race)
Audi Sport has contested in the Le Mans 24-hour race twelve times since 1999, achieving a podium finish on all occasions 10 out of which they managed to win. In 2011, Audi won the Le Mans with an entirely new TDI diesel-powered ‘closed’ coupe in the most emphatic manner ever imaginable.
After two of its three cars crashed out of the race in a timespan of just a few minutes seperating the two accidents, the third and only R18 coupe that survived the entire duration of the race managed to maintain its lead position all the way to finish line giving the team its most memorable win ever in Le Mans Racing history before 250,000 jubiliant spectators.
To celebrate this, Audi has just introduced a stunning new Limited Edition Audi R8 Coupe, whose exclusive titanium-effect paintwork and enhanced standard equipment will begin and end with just 100 examples, that are currently scheduled for production. A similar finish will also find itself on the 19-inch ‘5-arm double-spoke Y design’ alloy wheels, which is inspired by the R8 GT Coupe. Bright Red brake callipers on the new Audi R8 Le Mans Edition will also be another differentiating feature that will come as standard.
Connectivity, Entertainment and Lighting options on the Limited Edition R8 model get a real boost from the base model. The list is long starting with Satellite navigation, a Audi Music Interface (AMI), an interior light package and to top it all a premium Bang and Olufsen sound system, as well as mobile phone preparation via a Bluetooth interface with integrated seat-belt microphones.
On the inside, the Limited Edition R8 Coupe is marked out by crimson red accents on its plush leather seats, which also feature red contrast stitching. The sporting character is further underlined by stainless steel pedals and illuminated door sills with bright aluminium inserts carrying the R8 logo.
The new R8 V8 Limited Edition, which becomes available to order next month will be sold in the UK for a price of £93,935 or Rs 67,49,233.2. Audi has not announced any plans of bringing this special R8 model to India anytime soon, but rest assured if they do we will be the first ones to inform you.
