Four years after receiving the file at the mercy petition of Parliament attack accused Afzal Guru case, Delhi Chief Minister Ms Sheila Dikshit Tuesday sent it to the Lieutenant-Governor Tejendra Khanna.
It is learned that the Delhi government has recommended the death penalty on the basis of reports submitted before the Delhi police, was the director of prosecution and probation social services department, as input to the proceedings sought.
Earlier in the day said Ms. Dikshit, the file is gone before while answering questions from journalists. While Ms. Dikshit not elaborate, confirmed a senior official of the Lieutenant Governor's secretariat as Mr. Khanna received the file Tuesday and that it was "immediately returned to the Home Department of Delhi government for a quick clarification.''
Only after Lieutenant-Governor gave his remarks and sent it back to the home department will be forwarded to the Union Ministry of Interior.
The Ministry had recently sent 16 reminder to Delhi government to quickly rule on the petition.
That was only after the decision in Mumbai attack case, which allows the death penalty for Ajmal Amir Kasab that Afzal Guru issue was again highlighted.
