Kites flies high globally

Baptized as "feverish activity" of international trade periodical Variety, actor Hrithik Roshan and Barbara Mori newcomer story of unhappy love in Kites have surely touched the hearts of audience worldwide.

Although the reports are talking about a passive start in India, the figures for the gap weekend tells a different story. One of the most predictable films of 2010, had this Anurag Basu-directed film a giant breach in its first weekend.

While the film gross over Rs. 21 crore on the gap day in the country - the second uppermost ever, it was open was to create a directory kind globally.

Analyst said the first day collection points to an all-time high for the first weekend box office collection universal. Hrithik film also marks the main ever release for any movie. The film was released at the same time in 2000 screens across India through 10,000 daily and display over 500 screens abroad. Kites ran to full houses in 30 countries - an unprecedented achievement.

Sanjeev Lamba, CEO, Reliance Big Pictures, said: "We are very pleased with the film's first reaction at the box office, and expect that it will set new standards for the Indian film engineering."Producer Rakesh Roshan adds: "I am overwhelmed by the answer in India and overseas."

Kites have also earned high praise in the West. A New York Times account stated: "Mr. Hrithik Roshan require seen uncut: writhing on the dance floor or just stare into space, was the man made to drive women crazy, one video at a time." While the San Francisco record called the film a beautiful opera, The Hollywood Reporter writes, "Hrithik Roshan anchor the film with a solid, reliable performance, and a palpable chemistry with his co-star, will remind the audience how hot a good Bollywood explanation can be."

Kites will also see the international account titled Kites Remix, which opens worldwide on Friday. The film is presented by Hollywood's leading film director Brett Ratner of X-Men and Rush Hour 3 celebrity.
