At least
17 schoolchildren were killed and three injured in a car accident in Brazil's northeastern
Bahia state, said media reports.
The students were riding in an open truck that was struck by a truck while it crossed a bridge near the town of Laje, according to TV Globo.
The truck fell from a height of 15 meters, while the driver of the truck fled the scene, said fire officials.
The victims were at home after having participated in a series of school competitions.
