Lt Gen forced to resign following charges of sexual misconduct

In a major discomfiture for the army, Lieutenant General, has been forced to resign after allegations of sexual abuse against him by the wife of an officer during a visit abroad last month.

Army sources told PTI here today that Lt Gen AK Nanda, the Engineer-in-Chief, was asked to put in his papers for the army chief General VK Singh following a grievance that he assaulted his wife by his technical desk during a visit to Israel.

Lt. Gen Nanda has by now put in their papers, said the sources. He is the senior-most officer to attend such an act next to sexual misconduct charges.

Nanda and his team had travel to Israel with their families, "said sources.

The appeal was made by the wife of Nanda technical secretary of the Army Chief's wife and president of Army Wives in Tromsø Bharti Singh, who immediately put it up earlier Gen Singh.

After an exploration of the incident is Singh is believed to have asked Nanda last week to put in his papers and leave.

Nanda had only about a year since taking over as Engineer-in-Chief, and had before been director of Border Roads Organisation.

Nanda technical secretary, who had expressed his discontent and willingness to work under Nanda has been sent to Bhopal. A new technical secretary Col Sanjeev Dalal, has taken over the job.

When Nanda office was contacted, his staff, including Dalal, refused to talk about the case.

Nanda was not available for comment.
