The Samsung Galaxy S has made it to every major wireless provider in the U.S. market with new names, but most specs remain the same. Sprint got its hands on something slightly better: the Epic 4G.
With a name like “Epic,” this handheld has a lot to live up to - and it appears it will. First, it should be noted that this isn’t any version of the Galaxy S, but rather its the U.S. version of the Galaxy S Pro. Secondly, the Android 2.1-based device will be the second 4G-ready smartphone available with Sprint.
Like the other versions of the Galaxy S collection, the Epic 4G will boast a 4-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen, Wi-Fi, the 1GHz Cortex A8 Hummingbird CPU, a six-axis accelerometer for gamers, and a 5-megapixel AF camera/camcorder with LED flash that can record 720p HD video.
The Epic 4G stands apart, obviously first with the slider QWERTY keyboard design. Sprint also insists that this particular smartphone is the “first and only 4G handset” to have access to a video store with movie/TV titles ready for rental and/or purchase. Given that there aren’t many 4G handsets out there, this is quite possible. On top of that, the Epic can also connect to other DLNA-enabled devices, and it should be getting a Froyo (Android 2.2) update in the “near future.”
