SH Raza's work fetches record price at Christie's

A work by Syed Haider Raza today fetched a record price for any modern Indian artwork at the famous auction house Christie's.

Raza's 'Saurashtra' sold for ?2,393,250 (USD3,486,965) as against the original estimated price of ?1,300,000 to ?1,800,000.


Christie's have not disclosed details of the buyer of the work auctioned at the South Asian Modern Contemporary Art Sale.

It broke the previous record held jointly by S H Raza, (La Terre, sold for ?1,273,250 on June 30, 2008) and F N Souza (Birth, sold for ?1,273,250 on June 11, 2008).

Several work of renowned painter M F Husain were also auctioned today.

His untitled work (Arjuna and Krishna) was sold for $577,250 while another untitled piece (Bundi Landscape) was sold at $55,250.

Yet another untitled work (horses) went for $169,250.
