Uruguay defeated Ghana, 4-2 in penalty kicks, after the teams played to a 1-1 tie. Ghana had a chance to win the game at the very end of extra time, but Asamoah Gyan's penalty kick, awarded after a very intentional hand ball by Uruguay's Luis Suarez, caromed off the crossbar.
