Over 3,700 pilgrims visit Amarnath, 5th batch leaves

Over 3,700 pilgrims have paid obeisance at the Amarnath shrine, while the fifth batch of 3,165 devotees today left for the cave temple in south Kashmir Himalayas.

The batch, comprising of 2,157 males, 699 females, 111 children and 198 sadhus, left in a convoy of 228 vehicles around 0500 hours amid tight security, police said.

The convoy, which left twin base camps of Pahalgam and Baltal for their onward journey to Amarnath, has already crossed Batote area of Ramban district, they said.

More than 3,700 devotees have visited the 3,888 metre high cave shrine till today, Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) officials said, adding all arrangements, including security, are in place on the twin tracks from Pahalgam and Baltal.

Over 8,000 pilgrims are enroute to the cave shrine from the two base camps for the darshan of the ice lingum of Lord Shiva, they added.
