Critics Take Swings At Venus Williams’ Wimbledon Outfit

Critics Take
Venus Williams’ outfits seem to be garnering more attention than her stellar game play at the annual Wimbledon, England tournament.

During her victory over Akgul Amanmuradova, Williams wore a self-designed outfit that has the web and tennis commentators debating on whether it was a poncho, or a jumper.

“It’s a jumper,” Venus told reporters who questioned the outfit. “Jumpers are very now, kind of trendy. The back is kind of, I don’t know, like a cutout or a peek-a-boo. I’m always trying to do something different and fun.”

England-Sri Lanka third Test day two delayed by rain

England-Sri Lanka

Rain has delayed the start of the second day of the third Test match between England and Sri Lanka at the Rose Bowl - with a forecast suggesting a possible wash-out for Friday.

The Southampton weather allowed only 38 overs to be bowled on day one.

In that time, England pace bowlers James Anderson and Chris Tremlett made use of bowler-friendly conditions to reduce the tourists to 81-4.

Best fielding side I have been part of in 5 years: Raina

suresh
Fielding has never been Indian cricket's strong point but stand-in skipperSuresh Raina says the side competing against the West Indies right now is the best fielding unit he has been part of in the past five years.

"In my view, it is the best Indian fielding side I have been part of in the last five years."

The team's new fielding coach Trevor Penny said the current side has four-five players who are excellent.

"There are at least four or five boys in the team who are excellent," remarked Penny, who was recommended to the job by coach Duncan Fletcher.

Gayle could stop playing for Windies

Gayle
Kingston, June 16: If you thought West Indian opener Chris Gayle was in a mood for reconciliation with the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), here is some shocking news. The tall Jamaican's role as part of the Windies' team is in peril after his camp engaged in a heated exchange with board officials on Wednesday.

A big-wig of the WICB indicated that Gayle's career could well morph into that of a free-lancer, akin to the status of Australia's Andrew Symonds. Thus, Gayle could be relegated to a player who merely takes part in Twenty20 tournaments around the globe, but does not play with the team from the Caribbean any more.

Cleveland's Struggles Continue, Lose To The Yankees

Sports News
NEW YORK (AP) — Derek Jeter admits reaching 3,000 hits is constantly on his mind. It's unavoidable with everyone talking about it. And he also knows there are only four games left on the Yankees' current homestand before they head out for a six-game road trip.

The race is on to do it at home.

Jeter had a pair of RBI singles to get within seven of the milestone Sunday, and New York pounded out a season-high 18 hits while beating the slumping Cleveland Indians 9-1.

"I'd be lying to you if I told you I haven't been thinking about it," said Jeter, who singled during a five-run fifth inning and again during a three-run eighth, while also hitting a pair of long fly balls to the warning track.

Congratulations Dallas Mavericks

Dallas Mavericks
Congratulations to the Dallas Mavericks, 105-95 winners of Game 6 of the NBA Finals and the 2011 NBA Champions. Dallas overcame early foul trouble in this game, ridicule throughout the series, and most of the things that other teams succumb to in order to leave no doubt about their title. I suppose this also shows that if something is good, sticking with it can pay off.

Standing ovation for the Mavs. Be sure to check out Mavs Moneyball and offer your congratulations as well.

Raina asks Arnab to launch campaign supporting India in West Indies

Suresh Raina, the Indian cricket team captain for the West Indies tour, is understood to have written a mail to Times Now editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami, pleading the news channel to launch a “sustained campaign” to help the Indian team get some support and television viewership.

India has won one Twenty20 match and two ODIs in West Indies, but Indian cricket fans have shown no interest in following the series yet.

Clenbuterol strikes again: Guillermo Ochoa and four others suspended

Clenbuterol
Five members of Mexico's Gold Cup squad have been suspended after they tested positive for the banned substance Clenbuterol. They are goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa (Club America), defenders Francisco Javier Rodriguez (PSV) and Edgar Duenas (Toluca), midfielders Antonio Naelson (Toluca) and Christian Bermudez (Atlanta).

The general secretary of the Mexican Football Federation, Decio de Maria said that the five players were suspended with immediate effect. They could also potentially face a two year ban from the sport if the investigations turned up any wrongdoing. However, he also added that tainted chicken or beef could be the cause of the banned substance appearing in their urine samples.

2nd ODI: India trash West Indies by 7 wickets

Indian batsmen did well to chase the new target and won by seven wickets, doing in brisk fashion due to the D/L system after a deluge reduced the game.

Virat Kohli was the star (81) of the day, forging a solid partnership with Parthiv Patel (56) that set up the platform to chase the total as skipper Raina stayed till the end to help India take a 2-0 lead in the five match ODI series.

A constant downpour resulted in India chasing a revised target of 183 runs in 37 overs.

College baseball: UCLA stays alive with 4-1 victory over San Francisco – Los Angeles Times

It didn't really matter what UCLA batters did Sunday afternoon. Bruins pitcher Adam Plutko saw to that. Plutko, a freshman, gave up one hit in 7 2/3 innings and the Bruins avoided elimination with a 4-1 victory over San Francisco in the NCAA tournament

Every time UCLA pitcher Gerrit Cole went into his motion, the speed guns went up. Each pitch was charted and discussed by more than a dozen major league scouts Friday.

It's doubtful San Francisco's Kyle Zimmer was even on their radar.

Rafael Nadal v Roger Federer: French Open final live

Sports
14.04 They're out on court. Nadal bounces around feverishly for a while then takes his customary posture, setting his towel just so across his thighs, arranging his water bottles with the labels all aligned. Federer, as usual, looks about as fussed as a businessman gathering his belongings before getting off a train.

14.02 BBC have paired their pre-game hype reel with this sweet little ditty by Carla Bruni. Well worth a listen, though not a song particularly suited to building an impression of warring egos and tidal rushes of testosterone.

14.00 No sign of the players yet, but it's dry in Paris and there's even a little bit of sun. Play should be under way before too long. How long it will take... that's another question.

Heat stars turn visions of a Bulls breeze into a mirage

Idon’t want to say Bulls fans were overly wound up Wednesday night, but when Miami’s Chris Bosh dunked, the guy behind me at the United Center screamed angrily, “Guard him!’’ The score was 2-0.

On the other hand, maybe he saw a future of dunks, layups and LeBron James dominance unfolding before him.

Let’s call what happened Wednesday a market correction. Miami tied the Eastern Conference finals 1-1 with an 85-75 victory. No matter what Game 1 might have said, the Bulls are not 21 points better than the Heat. James and Dwyane Wade are not the bystanders they appeared to be in Game 1. They’re two of the top 10 basketball players on the planet. Chicago and its suburbs might have lost sight of that after Game 1’s blowout victory.

SriLanka Vs Pakistan [Pakistan vs Sri lanka] Live Highlights Video Online World cup 2011 -26th february 2011

Pakistan will be playing their first big match of the world cup against hosts SriLanka. Pakistani cricket fans are getting nervy, they do not have confidence in their team and fear loss before every encounter.

Team Pakistan and it’s fans should remember only one thing they have beaten Sri Lanka in each of their six encounters in the World Cups and have won their previous five games at the R Premadasa. The fans of Pakistan team and the cricket pundits have been a bit nervous regarding their bowling combination, the form of Shoaib Akhtar and the lack of pace of Abdul Razzaq has been the main concern.

The newly laid pitch at Premadasa stadium has so far been a bat first- low scoring track, the average score at this track has been 225. I think Pakistan still has enough fire power in their bowling even if they don’t make a change they should not drop a batsman against SriLanka as Srilanka is a good bowling side. They can play Riaz in place of Akhtar if he is not fully fit but thats about it.
Play the match like any other match no need to get nervous this match will have little or no consequences on Pakistan’s chances to qualify for the QF, so Afridi & CO should play their natural game and should not take any pressure at all for this match. The pundits might not respect Pakistan team but in my opinion this team has all the firepower to beat any team in this tournament.

All we need is that our key players should play the match with their natural flare. We lose matches when we take pressure and self implode. Pakistan has beaten this SriLankan team on many occasions, they will have a home advantage and a knowledge of the newly laid track to their advantage but if Afridi led the team calmly it will be tough for SriLanka to beat Pakistan team.

What Afridi should realize is that tough matches in the initial round develop or destroy the confidence of the teams, regardless of the result Afridi will have to show calmness as a leader and should continue to encourage his players through thick and thin , he will have to make his players believe that they are the best.

Pakistan (probable): 1 Mohammad Hafeez, 2 Ahmed Shehzad, 3 Kamran Akmal (wk), 4 Younis Khan, 5 Misbah-ul-Haq, 6 Umar Akmal, 7 Shahid Afridi (capt), 8 Abdul Razzaq, 9 Umar Gul, 10 Abdur Rehman, 11 Shoaib Akhtar

Sri Lanka (probable): 1 Tillakaratne Dilshan, 2 Upul Tharanga, 3 Kumar Sangakkara (capt & wk), 4 Mahela Jayawardene, 5 Chamara Kapugedera, 6 Thilan Samaraweera, 7 Angelo Mathews, 8 Thisara Perera, 9 Nuwan Kulasekara, 10 Ajantha Mendis, 11 Muttiah Muralitharan
