URUGUAY had not played Ghana at senior level in any competition. After this amazing, extraordinary, tense and traumatic World Cup quarter-final, the football world surely cannot wait for a rematch.
It ended in cruel heartbreak for Ghana and for its tireless frontman, Asamoah Gyan, amidst controversy after the Africans were denied a last-gasp winner by Luis Suarez's handball on the line.
Gyan had the perfect chance to win the game with the last kick of extra time but he blasted his penalty against the bar, forcing the need for the nerve-shredding shootout after 120 minutes of pulsating football.
