Afghan insurgents attack Bagram air base

Insurgent launch a bold pre-dawn attack Wednesday alongside the giant US-run Bagram Air Field one day after a suicide bomber struck a U.S. convoy in the capital Kabul, killing 18 people. Kabul dead incorporated five American soldiers and one Canadian, and was the fatal attack on NATO in the Afghan capital in eight months.

A spokesman for the Taliban Zabaiullah Mujahid claim blame for the attacks, said 20 suicide bombers were concerned.

Tuesday a suicide bomber attacked a NATO group in Kabul, killing 18, counting five NATO soldiers.

Bagram is one of the biggest military bases in the country, home to most American soldiers.

The attack began early Wednesday, which included rockets, small arms and grenades.

Air Base is located 30 miles (50 km) north of the Afghan capital.

In Tuesday's attack in Kabul, five military vehicle were injured and more than a dozen civilian vehicles, counting a bus, was also caught in the explosion.

BBC's Mark Dummett said that, as often happens in such attacks; civilian Afghans come into view to have borne most of the bang in the metropolis.
