Couple stoned to death in Andhra Pradesh
A couple who had run away and married, was stoned to death in what appears to be a case of honor killings in Andhra Pradesh's Nizamabad district.
Enraged residents in the village Krishnajivadi rained stones on the couple by tying them to a pole, police said Thursday.
The macabre incident took place late Wednesday evening in the Telangana region, about 250 km from here.
Sunkara Srinivas, 32, belongs to scheduled caste (SC) and 22-year-old Swapna Reddy, who belongs to an upper caste, had run away and married a half years ago.
Swapna family were against the alliance that Srinivas was from a lower caste and already married. He had two children, from his first wife.
The newlyweds lived in Hyderabad for sometime then Srinivas has worked as a computer operator in a private company.
They returned to the village three days ago. Swapna relatives urged the couple under the pretext of discussing some issues. After a quarrel, they started beating Srinivas and when Swapna tried to protect him, they attacked her so much.
The couple was then bound to a pole and the attackers, numbering around 30, pelted stones at them, which led to their death.
The police have registered a case and arrested three people.
