Narendra Modi to PM: Withdrawal new panel on Narmada project

In a letter to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Chief Minister Narendra Modi has asked him to lead the Ministry of Environment and Forest to extract his request for the formation of a group to assess the ecological measures under the Sardar Sarovar Project.

The CM said that the result letter from the Ministry is not in agreement with existing necessities of the Narmada Yojana and the highest Court order dated 20 October 2000. Modi handed over the letter to the prime minister late Monday night.

Modi correspondence says that after having examined the legal settlement and clearing many obstacles, the project has managed to set many milestones, thanks to a positive stand by the Indian government and Prime Minister. Modi claimed all aspects of safety were properly cared for and in the 48th meeting of the ecological sub-group of the Narmada Control Authority, headed by Secretary, was the height of the Sardar Sarovar Dam set to 138 meters.

Chief Minister said that the newly shaped commission to review decisions other key agencies in the past. The move will further make difficult the matter and may have a negative impact on the project. He said there was need to form an independent body which Narmada Control Authority is capable enough to take some steps in the scheme.

Modi also required an early end to Rs39, 240 crore (at 2008-09 prices) for the Sardar Sarovar Project (SSP), which is approved by the Technical Advisory Committee of the Union Ministry for Water capital, March 11, 2010.

Modi said permission was essential to use financial support under the accelerate Irrigation Benefit Scheme Projects (AIBP) and centrally sponsored area development program for early completion of the venture.
