The girls are still getting settled in Cleveland and still picking up guys in TV Land's Hot in Cleveland, Season 1, Episode 2, Who's Your Mama?
Joy (Jane Leeves) picked up a guy who is 15 years younger than her, but that's nothing compared to Elka (Betty White) who got the phone number of not one but three guys. "I had to wait until 88 to find out I had game," she says.
Joy quickly realizes her fears of being a cougar are nothing compared to her real problem: Tyler might be the son she gave up for adoption. The gals work out a plan to get his DNA - thanks to ideas from Victoria's (Wendie Malick) soap opera stint as Honor Saint Raven - and Joy meets him at his apartment.
Naturally, Tyler has other things in mind, and as Joy compares his thick, full hair to hers, she accidentally gives him a bloody nose. Too bad, he catches her bagging the bloody DNA. And too bad she finally learns that he already found his birth mother and it definitely isn't Joy. Relationship over.
Meanwhile, Victoria travels to Big 'N Easy store and quickly gets addicted to buying a lifetime supply of everything for a pittance, including vermouth. "They welcome all people, day or night," Victoria says. "It's like hell." But when the girls realize she's shopping again, they decide to stage an intervention. They find her at the store, but learn why she's really there: everyone knows her and wants her autograph. Victoria admits she was 'searching for validation in bulk.'
During all this, Elka is struggling to work up the courage to call one of her many suitors. The problem is, she doesn't know how to call any of the guys because they all have something to offer. Arthur can still drive at night; Larry has hair; and Sal still has both of his original hips...
Later, she admit to Melanie (Valeire Bertinelli) that really, she's just scared. After she finally calls Larry and hears he's dead, she thinks this it's fate's way of telling her she's too late. Glass half-full Melanie disagrees; its a reminder that life is too short and she needs to take the chance. Elka makes the call to Sal and sets up... a double-date. Sal's younger friend - a ripe hard-of-hearing 85-year-old - gets to hang out with lucky Melanie. He even offers her his oxygen.
The girls are in Cleveland to stay and they're learning to let the past go... except Joy. She signs up on a Website to find her real son. And then she realizes she might be a grandma. And Betty White jokes that maybe one of her grand-kids is old enough for her to date.
