India pushes for expansion of permanent seats in UNSC

India, is seeking a enduring seat in UN Security Council, said that an growth of only non-permanent seats are not a reform of the world body and called for increased membership in both categories.

"There can be no reform without swelling in both categories of members," Hardeep Singh Puri, India & apos envoy to the UN, said last night at a meeting called to discuss the negotiating text of Security committee reform.

"Similarly, the expansion only in the non-permanent category or any of its other variation, not a reform, and only uphold the current inefficiency of the inefficient funds in vogue since 1963," he said.

In the closed-door meeting, including India - which as one with Japan, Germany, South Africa and Brazil, seeking permanent membership of the Security Council - said that a large majority of countries supported to expand the size of the international body & apos top organ from 1915 to mid 1920's.

Puri & apos commentary came a day after a top U.S. official says India will play a "central" of Security Council reform, but stopped up short of officially approved Rental & apos bid for a permanent seat.

"We aposre & open to the expansion of permanent membership of the Council, and we believe that India and the Apostle will have a key role to play given that the & apos must come from reform of the UN Security Council," Under desk of State for Political Affairs William Burns said .

"India supports a charter-based distribution of seats to the general lack of symbol of Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the lack of adequate representation of Asian countries in the everlasting membership," Puri said.

This year, India is also organization for a non-permanent seat on the Council that elections will be held in October. Puri and his team have been the canvas for the single area in the last three years.

Earlier this year drew Kazakhstan & apos from election boards racial leave India with a clean slate for 2010-11.
