Kolkata Police detained Pakistan-bound ship off the coast of Kolkata. The ship was carrying a consignment of arms and ammunition and was detained at Diamond Harbour in West Bengal's South 24 Paraganas district. The cargo ship has not declared the kind of explosives it was carrying.
According to the Navy sources, preliminary inspection was over yesterday and it was declared that ammunition has been found. Navy Sources tell TIMES NOW that this military material is linked to the UN mission in Liberia. Navy has started investigating about the owner of the ammunition and where it was routed to.
Pakistan-bound vessel travelling from Bangladesh was registered in Liberia. The cargo onboard vessel included explosives like anti-aircraft guns, rocket launchers and smoke bombs. The vessel was also carrying nearly 5 tonnes of military cargo, and was to unload some part of the cargo at Kolkata.
The vessel was detained at the Diamond Harbour in West Bengal.

We had reports of certain consignment which we checked and found two containers, containing some military hardware like rocket launchers. Senior police officers, customs officials, coastal security will check whether the consignment is authorised or not, also their documents will be checked. We are still investigating whether there was any deviation of route and whether the declarations were in place or not. Then only our further course of action will be determined."
The coast guard has handed over the probe of the explosive laden vessel to the customs departement officials.
