Maruti sales top 100,000 a month for first time

Car major Maruti Suzuki Tuesday reported 27.9% jump in sales in May to 102,175 units compared with 79,872 vehicles sold in the year ago era.

This is the first automaker has ever sold over 100,000 units a month, the previous highest monthly sales amount is 96,650 units in February.

"In May, the domestic sales of 90,041 units domestically, up 27.2% over the corresponding month last year. This is the highest ever domestic for a month, the company said in a statement.

Exports during the month increased 33.5% to 12,134 units.

Sales in the compact car (A2) segment consists Alto, grew Wagon-R, Zen, Swift, Ritz and A-Star 16.6% at 62,679 units in May 2009.

Sales of cars in their medium (A3) segment consists SX4 and D'Zire rose% to 60.5 10,883 cars, while it sold 12,953 cars in the C segment, which consists of the Omni, Versa, and Eeco launched in January of year .
