Raajneeti nets 2nd biggest opening after 3 Idiots
Despite mixed reviews, informed Raajneeti the Prakash Jha's political thriller, was Rs 10.50 crore whole (R 105 million) on opening day, June 4.
The film, which reportedly cost Rs 55 crore (550 million R) to ensure and promote, has been very well received in urban areas and across northern India, with occupancies of 80%.
UTV, which co-produced the film along with Jha, said Raajneeti have recorded the second highest opening ever, after three idiots who played the Rs 13 crore (130 million R) on the opening day 25 December 2009.
Fellow 2010 releases Kites (RS 10 crore / RS 100 million) and Full House (RS 9 crore / R 90 million) due Raajneeti on numbers three and four, the largest ever first day collections. 2008's Ghajini is number five (R 9 crore).
