Twilight fans have erected a tent city outside the downtown Los Angeles theatre where Thursday's night's premiere of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse will unspool.
Devotees of the teen vampire romance began assembling outside the Nokia Theatre on Sunday night, with the number of those camping out in tents rising into the hundreds.
The theatre complex's plaza is a sea of colourful tents, blankets, umbrellas and sunshades — many accessorized with Twilight-related T-shirts, cardboard cutouts and other related memorabilia.
Fans — some of whom have travelled from other cities and states for the premiere — must follow a list of rules issued by theatre officials, who will also distribute about 9,000 wristbands for guaranteed spots on Thursday night's red carpet.
Eclipse, the third instalment of the Twilight film series, continues the story of teen Bella Swan (portrayed by Kristen Stewart) as she prepares to graduate from high school and remains torn between two love interests: the vampire Edward (Robert Pattinson) or werewolf Jacob (Taylor Lautner).
Directed by David Slade, the film opens widely in North American theatres on June 30.
Producers confirmed earlier this month that Breaking Dawn, the final book in Stephenie Meyer's blockbuster series, will be split into two films.
Together, the first two films — Twilight and New Moon — earned more than $1 billion US at the worldwide box office.
