The Walt Disney Company: Disney's designs on India

After Do Dooni Chaar, the first Hindi live-action movie distributed by The Walt Disney Company (Disney) in India, won a National Award, the Hollywood studio tied up with UTV Motion Pictures (UTV) for more. The two studios, which have had a long-standing association, have entered a movie co-production deal to bring out four to five new titles a year.

While Disney and UTV will share creative responsibilities such as conceptualisation and scripting for these films, UTV will manage the production, marketing and distribution. The deal is another testimony to Disney’s grand designs for the Indian entertainment market, after its entry in 2004. In 2006, the company acquired Indian children’s television channel, Hungama TV, and took an equity interest in media company UTV Software Communications.

The Disney Television Network currently comprises Disney Channel, Disney XD and Hungama TV; the network currently reaches over 71 million homes with Sun Distribution Services as the exclusive distribution partner.

SEBI wants stock exchanges to go through 'stress test'

Business
New Delhi: SEBI may soon frame a policy for the stock exchanges to go through a stress test to prepare them for handling 'flash crash'-like situations, where a sharp plunge in some stocks leads to across-the-board panic sale.

The market regulator is currently working out a policy on the stress test for the stock exchanges, as well as other market infrastructure institutions like clearing corporations, a senior SEBI official said.

The proposed stress test would prepare the bourses for handling situations where any sharp fall in share prices of one stock, possibly because of a freak or wrongly-entered trade order, can result in panic-selling by investors.

Making Safe Investments | ways of safe investments

Below you’ll find an overview of the things you will want to know about safe investments, how to find them, and the risks associated with them.

5 Investments That Are Considered Safe
These five investments are considered to be among the safest investments you can own, as their primary purpose is to protect your principal. A secondary purpose is to provide interest income.

How Safe Are My Safe Investments?
All investments have risk, even “safe” ones. You are exposed to three types of risk with safe investments; the potential to lose principal, loss of purchasing power due to inflation and the risk that comes with illiquidity, which can occur when safe investments contain surrender charges or maturity dates that are a long way off.

How Much Of My Money Should Stay In Safe Investments?
At a minimum you want to keep three to six months worth of living expenses in safe investments. The less secure your employment, the more money you want to keep in safe investments. The closer you are to retirement, the more money you want to keep in safe investments.

What Type of Investment Returns Would I Expect From Safe Investments?
What kind of investment returns, or approximately how much investment income, would you expect to receive from safe investments? It depends on the year. This table will show you past safe investment returns from 1973 through last year.

One Key To Making Safe Investments; Learn To Avoid Bad Investments
One key to making safe investments is learning how to avoid bad investments. You can bypass many a bad investment by knowing what to look for. Most bad investments can be avoided by using five simple rules.

Finding Guaranteed Retirement Income
Although not technically an investment, finding guaranteed retirement income definitely falls in the same category as safe investing. After all, how much safer can you get than "guaranteed"? Guess it all depends on where the guarantee comes from. The primary sources are social security, pension plans, and annuities.

Technical Outlook : Weekend witnesses some profit booking...

Market spent the day trying to get bearish but not really succeeding too much. The decline that we saw on Friday was more owing to lack of buying rather than any aggressive selling. Early during the day we did see a bout of position unloading by longs particularly in the small and mid cap stocks. The lull in the afternoon was when people stopped selling. A minor intraday rally ensued that brought levels up again to attract fresh round of selling. But we feel the selling had no teeth to it and hence may not repeat into the next week.

The chart featured today is Bank Nifty 60 minutes. The rally seems to have stopped short at the gap area. This is never a good sign as it shows that the bulls could only muster enough strength to bring it to the resistance levels. Thus one should be on the watch in the banking stocks in the coming week. It will be make or break time for them. If bullish, they need to start moving higher and cross the gap area resistance shown in the chart. If not, they will remain under the weather and seek to participate duringmarket declines during the week.
