Is Nancy Grace The Media Face Of Casey Anthony's Trial?

Since the beginning, when Caylee Marie Anthony was just a missing child - HLN's Nancy Grace has been covering this case with a definite negative slant toward Casey Anthony. In fact, Nancy Grace is better known for referring to Casey as "tot mom" rather than by her real name. I have thought for years now, that when most people here the name Casey Anthony the next two things that come to their mind are "child killer" and "Nancy Grace".

Whether she wants the title of being the media face of the Casey Anthony case or not - Nancy Grace is the one person, outside of the courtroom, most people think about. So what will Nancy Grace do when the Casey Anthony murder trial ends? My guess is that she will find another story that is similar in nature and begin covering it. However, it will be a long time before another case as popular as this one comes along.

Bombardier, Procurement and British Manufacturing

Today’s papers dedicate many column inches to the news that more than 1,400 jobs are to be cut at Bombardier, the UK’s last train manufacturing plant, in Derby. These job losses come after Bombardier lost the £3bn contract to supply 1,200 carriages for the Thameslink route, a contract that was won by Siemens of Germany. The Guardian quotes Bombardier as saying that the loss of the Thameslink contract made a near 50% cut in the workforce “inevitable”.

I could write more about the companies involved, but I would prefer to concentrate on the failures of policy that led to today’s decision, in the hope that next time we will be better prepared. But for the record, Siemens employs about 16,000 people in the UK, many of them trade unionists, and makes an major contribution to the economy. What is written below is in no way a criticism of Siemens or its workers, in the UK, in Germany or anywhere else. This is a systemic failure that neither Labour nor Conservative Governments have tackled, namely a failure to institute policies that allow UK procurement policy to support British industry.

Philip Hammond, the Transport Secretary, had a point this morning, when he highlighted the fact that the specification for this contract was drawn up by the last Labour Government. But he should be careful: his Government introduced a Plan for Growth last October, which failed to address the wider issue. The TUC’s Budget Submission in April 2011, for the umpteenth time, called for action on procurement. For the umpteenth time, we were ignored. So let me repeat our words exactly:

Martina McBride, Brad Paisley to perform on Fourth of July fireworks telecasts

Martina McBride
If you’re a country or bluegrass fan, you can catch some big names tonight by doing a little channel surfing among the fireworks shows on TV.

On the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular (9 p.m., CBS), Martina McBride is the featured performer and will sing some of her biggest hits. She’s stepping in as a last-minute replacement for Lionel Richie, who had to cancel his appearance because of strained vocal chords. The program will be hosted by actor Michael Chiklis.

“One of my most favorite things in the world is to perform with a live orchestra, and to sing with the prestigious Boston Pops on Independence Day in front of thousands of people and on national television is not only an amazing opportunity but a career highlight for me,” McBride said on CBS’ website.

Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular (8 p.m., NBC) will feature Brad Paisley, along with Beyonce. Nick Lachey is the host.

And on A Capitol Fourth (7 p.m., PBS), bluegrass stars Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers join the celebration led by Jimmy Smits. Other performers include Josh Groban, Jordin Sparks, Little Richard and Matthew Morrison.

Twilight Zone Creator Rod Serling To Receive His Own Biopic

Twilight Zone
Rod Sterling brought us some of the best and most imaginative sci-fi and fantasy programming on television in the 20th century, creating and taking the helm at such classics as The Twilight Zone and Night Gallery and now we have learned that his own Bureau of Moving Pictures production house has picked up the rights to tell his story in a new biopic.

The biopic is being written by Wall Street writer Stanley Weiser and the movie will focus on Serling’s life before and after his TV successes.

If you’re unfamiliar with the life of Rod Serling, he was a World War II Army veteran fighting against the Japanese, while later moving into radio before writing The Twilight Zone series followed by Night Gallery.

According to the biopic’s director Andrew Meieran:

“Rod Serling was one of the true visionaries in television history. He single-handedly broke the mold and established television as a powerful artistic medium capable of changing the world when used wisely.”
It’s still uncertain at this time who will play Serling in the movie. In the meantime, feel free to share your favorite Twilight Zone memories in our Facebook comments section at the bottom of this page. I for one hope they do justice to the movies score which was always one of the eeriest parts of each episode.

Statue Of Liberty USB Flash Drive

Statue Of Liberty
Stilp got the idea in 1986, during the run-up to the 100th birthday of the real Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor.

He built it out of plywood and old venetian blinds in a friend’s garage in Harrisburg.

Hoisting the 450-pound object onto the pier, without drawing attention from authorities, was bound to be a tricky and potentially deadly feat.

Celebrate freedom and independence every day with a Statue Of Liberty USB Flash Drive. It is the ideal flash drive to use on the Fourth of July, but there are other fitting USB drives as well. For example, the Bottle Opener USB Drive is perfect for popping open a beer at your backyard barbeque. If you’re the type that likes to fire off a pistol into the air after you run out of fireworks, the Revolver Flash Drive makes an excellent choice.

Statue Of Liberty USB Flash Drives are available in 4GB, 8GB and 16GB versions starting at $19.99 at Amazon.com. There is a similar 2GB model for only $9.49 with free shipping at FocalPrice.com, and the 4GB Model is just $11.96 shipped.

Canada Day 2011 fireworks in Toronto

Canada Day 2011
A client, quite seriously, asked me if I was afraid of what might happen in the Provincial election this fall. I replied that I was confident the Liberals would do well and went on about how the campaign hasn't really begun.

My client responded by saying "perhaps, but if the Liberals lose will you leave the country?"

At first I thought my client was crazy but then I realized that where he came from being a member of an opposition group was physically dangerous.

Sarah Palin or Michelle Bachman?

Sarah Palin
Having made reference to Sarah Palin and disparaging the name One Nation, which does have unfortunate connotations and having made a clumsy attempt to point out that her family life doesn’t seem to accord with what she is saying [but nor did Tammy Wynette's], Lord Nazh took me to task on whether her hand should be on the nuclear button:

I would rather see her hand on it than the current hand that’s on it. Damn, do you think she would just push the fucking thing to piss you off?

He’s right and Wolfie then provided this, with:
I have to admit, the extent the American media have gone to against Palin is astonishing – paedophiles get an easier press! Something smells.

Fran Drescher 'Happily Divorced' with Gay ex-husband

Happily Divorced
It's a case of art imitating life for actress Fran Drescher, whose new show Happily Divorced takes a page from her real-life relationship with her gay ex-husband.

The role of a wife whose husband ends up being gay is so familiar to Fran Drescher that in her new sitcom on the same subject, the characters have kept the real first names. 'Fran' is a Los Angeles florist whose life is turned upside down when 'Peter' , her husband of 18 years, suddenly announces that he is gay.

In real life, Fran Drescher and husband Peter Marc Jacobson separated after 21 years of marriage. "This show is inspired by our story, because Peter is now living as an openly gay man, but Peter and I split up before he came out," Drescher explains. "That wasn't the reason why we split up, and I was the one who ended the marriage, and he didn't want it to end. It was only after that, and The Nanny ended, and he moved 3,000 miles away and went into therapy that he started to connect with his true orientation."

Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer Movie Review: Great For Both Kids and Adults

Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer is based off the children's series by Megan McDonald and they are extremely popular among young girls. Now Judy Moody is on screen in real-sized technicolor and she is winning over hearts everywhere.

If you aren't familiar with the book series, it's probably because you don't have a young girl in your house. But you're not alone. I hadn't read any of the books before seeing this film and it doesn't matter. It's fun, vibrant, energetic, and full of life.

After the deeply personal account that was a favorite of ours from the show’s taping, LaMontagne then performs new single “Repo Man,” giving us a taste of what’s to come on tonight’s incredible episode.
