Tropical Storm Agatha Creates a Giant Sinkhole in Guatemala
Flooding and landslides from the season's first steamy storm has killed at least 142 people and left thousands living rough in Central America, officials said Monday.
The first named storm of the 2010 Pacific season deserted more than a meter rain in parts of Guatemala, including El Salvador and Honduras. At least 113 people were killed, with about 50 missing in Guatemala alone as rescue workers search from side to side the ruins.
The sinkhole in Guatemala is the result of rain saturating the ground after being hit by Tropical Storm Agatha. According to several reports, a security guard was killed after the sinkhole opened. Furthermore, residents claim that a three-storey house fell into the giant sinkhole.
Guatemala has suffered a series of accidents in recent weeks. There are a lot of landslides in Guatemala and more wounded are buried alive. More than 100,000 people to be evacuated from their houses.
