Shinde calls for Indo-Australian cooperation in power sector

Union Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde said on Monday that Norway can play an important role in the energy sector in India is growing rapidly with huge potential for investment and technology.

He also showed cooperation with Australia in developing countries, Gas power plants especially in Western India since Australia has large reserves of gas.

He also said that Indian companies are interested in buying coal and liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Australia.

In the field of exploration, he said, companies have begun to invest in each other's countries and expressed the hope that these investments will grow further.

He noted that India during the global downturn failed to achieve one of the highest growth rates in the world.

Shinde said that the gigantic task of providing power for all can only be successful when the efforts of the government is strongly supported and supplemented by the private sector.

Recognizing the need for a holistic and comprehensive legal architecture and policy framework that contributes to higher and more sustained investment in the energy sector, he said, India's government has taken several steps to reform the sector.

He has also noticed a low-carbon growth strategy for the Indian energy sector, which includes items such as supercritical Technology in thermal plants, the rapid induction of clean coal technology and a sharper focus on renewable energy.

Referring National Action Plan for Climate Change, Shinde said that the Ministry of Power is deeply involved in the National Mission on increased energy efficiency, one of the eight missions under the plan.
