SC allows Reddy brothers to resume mining in Bellary
The Supreme Court Monday gave consent for Reddy my brothers in the disputed areas, but believes there should be no more than 150 meters from the Karnataka border.
Janardhan Reddy and his brother Karuna Kara Reddy, both ministers in Karnataka administration is facing accusation of illegal extraction of iron ore to intervene on a large piece of wood in the area causing major injure to the surroundings.
Previous apex court had appointed a Survey of India (SOI) Panel to undertake a detailed mapping of the three mines Reddy brothers. The Soi submitted its report, says mining should be allowed before a new definition of Karnataka-Andhra Pradesh border is finished.
The Soi panel gave its nod to Reddy's 68.5 acres of iron ore mine, claiming that there was no major surgery. The panel says that 68.5 hectares to only 66 acres being mined.
The remaining 2.5 acres was earmarked for road building. He found the panel Reddy mining entire 68.5 acres.
Apex court had 22 March Reddy brothers suspended mining operation in Andhra Pradesh and ordered an investigation team to investigate the allegations and submit a preliminary report within two weeks.
Apex court had asked the investigation team to monitor the six mines in Andhra-Karnataka border - three of them belong to Reddy - to see if they affect the forest landscape.
Tumti Iron Ore owns Tapal Ganesh had lodged a police grievance in 2006 that Reddy brothers breaking his mine and later filed a appeal in the Supreme Court in 2009.
