BP Chief: From Oil 'Ninja' to Congressional Hot Seat

BP CEO Tony Hayward, the energy company executive who has become the face of the mammoth Gulf of Mexico oil spill, is expected to face a tough grilling by Congress today.

In a letter to Hayward earlier this week, Committee of Energy and Commerce Chairman Henry Waxman, D-Calif ., and Rep. Bart Stupak , D-Mich., said an investigation by the committee had found that before the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig, "BP appears to have made multiple decisions for economic reasons that increased the danger of a catastrophic well failure."

The paper, with representatives Henry Waxman and Bart Stupak, who was briefed by BP on the development of its internal investigation, also said problems were found in equipment designed to provide reliable protection against a blow out.

A BP investigator gave lawmakers that the fundamental errors may have been made because a lot of pressure on the drill line at 1,400 pounds per square inch (98 kg per cm), was an "indicator of a very great deformity."
