Is Faisal Shahzad a “Hybrid Terrorist”?
Faisal Shahzad, the Pakistan-US Times four-sided figure bombing suspect, is to be branded as a "hybrid terrorist", a person who acted alone in the U.S., but drew inspiration from outside the radical forces that Taliban.
There may be other such radicalized Americans who are waiting for a possibility to attack the country, reports CBS News.
"In a way, Shahzad was a lone wolf, with proof that he alone has purchased, installed and delivered his unsuccessful IEDs," he said.
The authorities have rounded up 15 to 20 people, including a friend who allegedly introduced Shahzad for the militant son of a restaurant owner who has done commerce with the U.S. Embassy, and a retired Pakistani Army Major, who may have had telephone contact with Shahzad.
But none have been absolutely related to the attack, and many, including Army Major, is now released.
Here in the U.S., the FBI continues chasing thousands of potential customers, digging in mobile phones, computers and files seized in the last raid.
But the examination has turned up no accomplices. Three men arrested on immigration charges apparently helped Shahzad import money from Pakistan, but sources say they had no information of the action.
Shahzad attacks marked amateurish. But former CIA analyst Phil Mudd says that we should take some consolation in that.
"Everybody's an amateur of people die, even people who have limited education and limited access to al-Qaida training - or no access - can kill hundreds," said Mudd.
Although there is no indication Shahzad is part of a larger cell, the administration warns others that he may be in the United States - radicalized Americans with terrorist connections and a desire to strike home.
